A journey of strength, struggle, and the power of giving back, as seen through the lens of our first participant.

What a remarkable experience I had this past Friday! It marked the first official interview and portrait session for my pilot project at none other than Yale University. Meeting the first participant in person was beyond inspiring—a day filled with their story of resilience, struggle, strength, and determination.

This single story was a powerful testament to the human spirit and the impact of serving others. Despite the challenges they faced, this participant has dedicated themself to helping others feel supported and be successful. Their journey of overcoming adversity and paying it forward was truly moving and added new depth to the portrait I created.

This experience was a confirmation of the need for this project. Although the Law Library was closed—despite what was posted on their webpage—I still found a way to capture the "rostro" of resilience in this participant. Even when things didn’t go as planned, the heart of this project remained strong. And while we weren’t able to visit the Law Library this time, we’ll definitely be back to explore more stories waiting to be told there!

I’m honored to showcase the strength of this participant through my lens and can’t wait to share their story in the upcoming photobook. Every session and every story reaffirms the importance of this work—and I can’t wait to see where this journey takes me next!

Stay tuned for more behind-the-scenes as I continue on this incredible path.
