Progress on Phase 2 of the 'La Fuerza de Nuestra Lengua' Project
As I reflect on the journey of the La Fuerza de Nuestra Lengua project, I am filled with excitement and gratitude for the progress we've made. Today, I'm thrilled to share that I've completed part of Phase 2—photographing and interviewing 16 pilot participants for the album that will eventually be gifted to each one as a token of appreciation for their participation. This album will serve not only as a gift to the individuals but as a powerful way to share this project with others.
The process of meeting with each participant, hearing their stories, and capturing their portraits has been both humbling and inspiring. These stories of resilience, strength, and pride for our heritage remind me of the incredible beauty that exists within the Hispanic/Latino community. Their words and experiences are a testament to the power of cultural identity and the importance of our voices in the broader narrative.
One of the most beautiful aspects of these sessions has been how education has served as an underlying commonality between the diverse locations where these portraits have been taken. Without recommending specific locations, each participant selected places that hold personal meaning to them. The diversity of locations—ranging from individual homes to places like science centers, community colleges, law libraries, and bookstores—reflects the deep connection many in our community have to the pursuit of knowledge and education. These spaces symbolize empowerment, growth, and resilience, and they speak to the value we place on learning as a vital part of shaping our future.
Through each session, we've come one step closer to bringing to the forefront the diverse and rich history of our community. The portraits are not just images; they are windows into the lives of individuals who embody the fuerza and fortaleza that have shaped our past and continue to guide our future. As we continue moving forward, I feel an even deeper connection to the mission of this project—to uplift and celebrate our heritage with pride and authenticity.
Thank you to each of the pilot participants for sharing their stories and for being a part of this journey. With every step, we are getting closer to creating a lasting impact that reflects the true essence of our culture.
Stay tuned for more updates as we progress through this exciting phase. Together, we rise by lifting others.
Stay tuned for a mid January celebration that I hope you can join us!
